Family Promise

Find out more about Family Promise and see how you can help!

Lake Houston Methodist Church is proud to be a part of the Family Promise program. The core program is a way for communities to address the challenge of family homelessness by using existing resources. Not only does this make the program cost-efficient, but it also makes it effective. Family Promise is not just about getting families into housing but addressing all the underlying issues and using the community to keep them in housing.

How it Works

Our church provides space in our buildings to serve as temporary homes. We provide a place where families can take showers, receive case management and look for housing and jobs. Lake Houston Methodist volunteers give their time making meals and sharing hospitality with our guests.

They share food, spend the night, play with children and lend their passion and expertise to help families get back on their feet. They prove that motivated people can solve family homelessness. More information can be found on the Family Promise website.

If you want to help with this outreach, contact Kelly Freeman, Missions Chair, at 281-734-1998.

Family Promise Volunteer Training

We are being required by Family Promise to have all volunteers complete Volunteer Training. The online version takes roughly 20 minutes. Here is a link to complete it.

Please click on the link for the Basic Volunteer Orientation and read through the pdf, then complete the form below the training link.

There are several questions on this form that are used to verify you have read the pdf.

If you have children aged 13 or over who volunteer with you, they will also need to complete this training.

It is ideal that you complete this training online; however, we will have a paper copy for you to review and sign, if needed.

It is important that ALL volunteers complete this training so Family Promise of Lake Houston can maintain its status at a national level.
